Chapter 3 – The Setup
The dinner party ended in awkward whispers as guests were ushered into the ballroom.
Mara retreated to the staff quarters, desperate to escape the suffocating tension.
She just needed this night to end so she could secure her sister’s college tuition.
Meanwhile, Celeste slipped into the master suite upstairs, her heart pounding with malicious intent.
She unlocked her jewelry box and pulled out a three-million-dollar diamond tennis bracelet.
Wrapping it in a velvet pouch, she hurried down the back staircase toward the servant lockers.
The hallway was empty, the staff busy serving dessert in the main hall.
Celeste found the locker with Mara’s name taped to the front.
With a wicked smile, she slipped the velvet pouch into the pocket of Mara’s civilian coat.
“Let’s see Julian look at you with adoration when you are arrested for grand larceny,” she whispered to herself.
