An hour later, the music stopped abruptly as four security guards entered the ballroom.

Julian frowned, stepping forward to intercept his head of security.

“What is the meaning of this interruption?” Julian demanded.

Celeste rushed to his side, dramatic tears welling in her eyes.

“Julian, my diamond bracelet is missing from the master suite!” she cried out loudly.

The crowd murmured in shock at the audacity of a theft during an engagement party.

“No one leaves the premises,” the head of security announced, locking the main doors.

“I want the staff searched immediately,” Celeste ordered, pointing toward the kitchen doors.

Mara was pushed into the room along with the rest of the frightened servants.

“Start with her,” Celeste sneered, singling Mara out in front of everyone.

“This is ridiculous,” Julian warned, but Celeste insisted it was standard protocol.
