Maisie accidentally bumps an expensive blue-and-white antique vase beside the wedding table.
It crashes onto the marble floor and shatters into pieces.
Portia immediately sl\*ps Maisie across the face, knocking the little girl down beside the broken porcelain.
“You destroy everything you touch.”
Alonzo has been speaking with guests only a few feet away.
He immediately crosses the ballroom, lifts Maisie from the floor, and places her safely behind him.
Flora begins carefully clearing away the shattered porcelain.
A small sealed envelope slides out from beneath the cabinet where the vase had been standing.
Portia sees it and instantly lunges toward Flora.
“Give me that envelope.”
Alonzo catches Portia’s wrist before she can reach Flora.
Flora hands the sealed envelope to him.
Cedric recognizes the handwriting on the front and slowly rises from the wedding table.
Portia tries to snatch the envelope again.
Alonzo releases her wrist and delivers one powerful open-handed sl\*p across her face.
She staggers backward into an empty wedding chair and collapses into it.
“That’s your mother’s handwriting.”
Alonzo looks down at the envelope, then slowly turns his gaze toward Portia.
Two bodyguards step behind her as the entire ballroom falls silent.
